I’ve been following Xfactor since last year where Joe Mcelderry won. This year, Westlife’s “Safe” song brought my attention to the start of the Xfactor series again. Currently, they are now down to the top 7 including One Direction (Simon Cowell), Wagner & Mary Bryne (Louis Walsh), Matt Cardle (Danni Minogue), Cher Llyod, Rebecca Ferguson & Katie Waissel (Cheryl Cole) – the ones in the brackets are the judges/mentors. Xfactor has a unique system where they put the contestants in groups (mainly groups, over 28’s, boys and girls) and under a judge as their mentor. So, it isn’t only a competition among the contestants but also the judges as well. I think it’s quite cool although sometimes I feel it’s biased or sometimes even embarassing when the contestant doesn’t sing well yet the judge still sings praises about them just because they are their mentor and don’t want to cause any rift between them and the contestants.
My favourite is definitely Matt Cardle. He kind of reminds me of Lee Dewyze (American Idol winner), probably because both of them were painters. Their voices are definitely different from each other’s though. Matt’s is higher pitched and he frequently sings girls’ songs. Although recently he has shown that he can sing low toned voices as well. I think he is just a brilliant singer. My favourite performance of his:-
I also like Cher Lloyd since her good audition. Sometimes, she can be brilliant. But, other times, I’m not a big fan. I would like to see Cher going against Matt in the finals but I predict it will be One Direction against Matt instead. One Direction is a boy band who sometimes can sing well but they just don’t have that charm for me. Can’t compare them to Westlife. :p Also, another singer worth mentioning is Rebecca Ferguson, who supposedly has a different class in her voice. Yeah I admit that her voice sounds good probably on radio but like Danii said she can’t just stand there in the middle of the stage everytime she sings her song. I’m surprised that the other judges like Simon Cowell hasn’t pointed out her stage performance yet so far. He did point out Joe Mcelderry’s “lack of stage performance” last time. Of course, Joe performed well after that critisicm. That was like Week 2 if I’m not wrong. But, now it’s like Week 8 and Rebecca has been standing in the middle stage for so many weeks now. Oh well, not a fan of her. Matt all the way!!! =)
